could not finish it,
This review is from: Cloud Atlas (Paperback)
i gave this book a go after seeing it at a local book sale. i had heard of it, but didnt know what it was about, so went in with a relatively unbiased view.
while i cannot fault the skill of writing, i could not bring myself to finish this book. it is sad because i normally give books the chance to blow me away all the way until the last page, but this one...just didnt.
the format was the main issue for me, which surprised me after enjoying 'time travellers wife' so much which has a similar disjointed narration. in this case, i was not left wanting to know more about the characters, and found that splitting the stories in half just made me forget who and what had happened in the previous story and so found any links made rather hard to follow.there was just too much of a gap between the parts of the individual stories. i was utterly bored by the half way point and just could not find the interest to carry on to discover what happened to the characters.
for some i feel this book will be a very good read, for me however, i enjoy being immersed into a characters story, and simply did not find that kind of enjoyment here.
