I have enjoyed the storyline of this romantic novel. I found the characters really drew me in, all in their individual ways. The book reads well and the style is alive with humorous anecdotes. The punctuation goes awry in places but I was able to adjust to that easily and the story more than compensates for that imperfection. The author gives characters depth and offers real insight into their emotional worlds. I was moved by many beautifully written passages. It is not difficult to identify with Sam, the main character as she struggles to allow her true self emerge past a harsh "inner critic". Some of her mishaps are at times exaggerated and did put me off a little but she oozes genuineness and humanness with a down-to-earth approach to life and in my view it is those qualities that turn her - and this book - into a winner. I was entertained by the book from beginning to end and when I finished reading it, I felt the same satisfied feeling I have after watching a good film. I will certainly be on the lookout for Mandy Baggot's other novels.
