I read this book as an Amazon-US KINDLE Unlimited download.
I found this book to be operating on several levels. On the outset, it seems to be simply a story of a dog, who got named Derf, being rescued after it, its mother, and the rest of the litter he’d been part of got thrown by their owner to fend for themselves out in the cold; vividly being told as a memoir from the dog’s POV [point of view]. The book is fraught with emotions, from Fred’s interaction with the cat members of his pet loving family, to the adventures being shared by all members of his family, the humans and the pets, until he passes away.
Between all of this, the author. Ms. Price, has skillfully interwoven the second level at which this book operates on, a level which deals with the religious aspects and lessons which the storyline is trying to communicate to its young readers.
Given the above, I’m happy to give Ms. Price and this book 5 STARS.
