This review is from: Photoshop Restoration and Retouching (Paperback)
This book is not for the *complete* Photoshop novice. If you fall into that category then take some time to learn your way around the application first. On the other hand, you don't need to be a Photoshop expert either as pretty clear explanations and instructions are given for all of the examples.
Generally a fantastic book! Its explanations of how to tweak exposure that is slightly off, boost the contrast of images, and provide a fill-in flash effect would be worth the cover price on their own. But once you see the examples of full-scale restoration work done on images that you would have sworn from the "before" shots were beyond repair... wow. You are likely to find yourself inspired and challenged. And to find yourself in the attic looking for old photographs to rescue.
The companion website (from which you can download the images used in the book so that you can work through the examples for yourself) is a masterstroke and really helps you to get a feel for the practical skills involved. I wish more authors did that sort of thing.
