I agree, being a "Yankee" from mid-Atlantic. Not only do I have trouble with some British accents, but am also hard-of-hearing. I do find that headphones and audio-adjustments to my TV help in some cases. MY BIG BEEF -- both Amazon.co.uk and AcornDVD.com often omit specific info on whether subtitles are included -- should have a mandatory line: Subtitles: Yes (with language listed) or No. It's terribly expensive to return a dvd set to the UK for lack of subtitles!
And yes, I've told friends to buy a $60 region-free Philips player and buy UK series at no more than half the US price, even allowing for shipping. (USA series are NOT less expensive from AmazonUK) Best example: 5 years ago I purchased the complete UK set of Inspector Morse for under $70.00 total including s/h. At that time the complete US region-1 set was slightly under $300.00. Additional savings in s/h when you purchase several UK sets at once.
As an added bonus, AmazonUK automatically deletes the VAT when shipping to the USA, reducing the cost further by 16%.
