Cushing says this was his worse film although I have read elsewhere that this dubious distinction goes to CORRUPTION. I think it's a great little movie and the BR transfer from Odeon is absolutely gorgeous. OK there is a pointless prologue and a weak ending, but in between is quality stuff (well OK,Cushing's daughter was an embarassingly bad performance but so was Diane Claire in PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES - which nonetheless is still a real classic).Cushing is superb as usual and Roy Hudd's comic cameo fantastic. The real problem is that this movie was made about 10-15 years too late, after the face of Horror Cinema was changed forever by Hammer, AIP and continental imports. My advice: turn the colour right down to monochrome and watch it on a double bill with CORRIDORS OF BLOOD - treat yourself to an evening with some of Horror's greatest icons!
