This review is from: KitSound BOOMDOCK 2.1 Docking Station Speaker System with Built-In AM/FM Tuner and Alarm Clock Compatible with 30-Pin Apple Devices - Black (Electronics)
Having spent quite a while searching for a docking station I cam across this gem. It was quite simple I wanted a docking station for under £100 that could hold its own summer bbq's with 30+ people. This more than forfils the challenge. Although Kitsound is a pretty unknown brand they have come up with a benchmark product. The finish is sturdy and classy in gloss black with solid silver controls. The front is uncomplicated and has a touch of retro about it, without shouting out about the power that lays underneath and yes it truly is 54w rms, have no doubts.
This has good features, bass and treble controls which go from -7 to 7db, giving so much better control than the normal awful preset eq's you'd expect at this level. To be fair the remote is a little cheap feeling, but wins it back in it's layout making at a doddle to use. I like the way you can fully control the ipod from it, a real plus for the bbq, along with full control over the sound.
So what about the sound? It is fantastic. When I first turned it on I thought the bass was on full such was the depth and power of it. The best sound achieved is probably to leave the bass at 0 and treble at 4. The main volume goes to 60 and is way over what you'd ever need for any occasion. Amazingly, there is no distortion and the clarity and serious wedge of bass never falls away. It is quite something for a box of its size. FM reception on this unit could easily be forgiven for being DAB, so good is it.
So whats wrong? Nothing really, as in some other reviews, yes the display is a bit bright and the standby light does look more like a warning light and maybe the stereo separation is a touch weak. But this is being over critical. At this price, this is the best value electrical item you'll be likely to buy and I very much doubt if there is 1 even comparable. I certainly, didn't find it.
The Boomdock is a great product and so far has become more of a talking point than just providing background music so impressive is it's sound. It's just as impressive at the low end as banging it out at th 45+ volumes. Look no further.
