Pokemon Black and White are not as good as Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, in all ways, even Pokemon platinum is better. If you are a long time fan of the Pokemon franchise, and played the original games on the Game-boy, believe me, it's not worth buying this generation. Whilst these two games may impress new players they do not add or build upon anything the preceding games have done or introduced. And, whilst they may seem quite addictive and fresh at the beginning, they fall pretty flat as soon as you've defeated the gym leaders.
Firstly, Game Freak should have released this on the 3DS as the graphics are very much geared towards the 3D format. Whilst the game world itself is impressive, the sprites of the Pokemon are very disappointing, being pixelated, having limited animation during battles and looking worse than the previous generation.
The format is exactly the same as before, you are given your starter Pokemon by a enthusiastic professor and sent out to complete the Pokedex, defeat a few bad guys in the process, hunt for a few legendaries and get all the gym badges. Same old, same old. The new battle types are laughable and do not crop up that often during play.
If you don't have internet access, the bottom screen is more or less useless and you feel as though you're missing out on a lot that the game has to offer, it's very internet and multi-player focused.
I do commend Nintendo for a few things. The game is slightly more difficult than before and you do have to think more tactically, the unlimited use of tms is good in this regard. The new Pokemon designs aren't bad overall and Nintendo did well to come up with new designs. The dowsing machine is much better in this game, but that is not enough to make this worth buying.
Overall, I was quite disappointed and intend to sell my copy and possibly buy pokemon platinum again instead, as this new generation is unimaginative and not that much fun to play...
