I'm a big fan of Karajan and Abbado, but I think that Sir Gibson is equal in terms of conducting Sibelius to the two gentlemen I mentioned above. I have a massive CD collection, including a huge collection of Mahler, but I must say, that Sibelius can't be possibly played with more passion than this Sir Gibson's one. The sound quality is thorough. Sir Colin Davis' performances are also good, except the humming - you can actually hear him.
Sir Gibson's performances are electrifying, powerful, convincing, dramatic and full of emotion. One cannot possibly imagine better playing than does the Scottish Orchestra. After all I've heard, I keep wondering, how is this possible. It's a miracle of music.
