This review is from: Fellowes Precision Cooler Laptop Riser (Office Product)
Having just received my laptop riser, I am really pleased with the quality and effectiveness of it's design. The metal is much thicker than I thought it would be, making it very sturdy and hard to fault. Although the feet are described as non slip, they aren't rubberised (as I thought) but simply plastic. On my wooden topped desk they grip OK but on a glass or more smooth surface i think they may slip a little. In the package comes a fairly large fan which has four 'pips' on it to attach it to the underside of the metal where extra cooling is needed and plugs into a usb port for power. The only fault I have is that I cannot place the fan exactly where it is needed because of the cut out area at the back of the riser. My laptop is an older 15" 4:3 screened model which may be a little deeper than newer laptops. This causes it to stick about 3/4" over the back of the riser meaning the fan doesn't quite sit directly over the processor area which is in the top left hand corner. The fan is still pretty effective where it is though, and in this hot weather my laptop no longer has it's fans going at warp speed and sounding like a mini jet engine trying to keep itself cool. The fan is quite quiet, which was one of my concerns before I bought it, and comes with a usb port built into it so that even though it is plugged in you don't lose a port.
One added benefit (I bought the riser for cooling reasons initially) is the more comfortable position my laptop is now in. With it now at about a 30 degree angle it makes typing more comfortable and the monitor is higher up so more at eye level, which helps a great deal with posture.
I would certainly recommend the riser, it is a little pricey (even with Amazons generous price cut) but it is worth the money. If you have a larger 17" laptop there is a version available for it too.
