VSL #3 is A+,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This was surprisingly recommended by my consultant who said she wished it was available on prescription. Most of the consultants I have encountered, (I have severe UC) refuse to discuss the use of supplements or food in controlling UC. This product seems to work and helps keep my symptoms under control. I wouldn't rely on it solely of course but it is also a blast of goodness for any digestive system.

This product is available on prescription if you live in UK, I have used it for the last 3 years for severe IBS and I get it on prescription from my GP, initiated by my gastroenterologist.

I did check this out with my consultant and sadly not the case as considered a food supplement. Maybe differs from county to county so well worth checking with own doctors.

I think your consultant don't really know the rules, just because something is a food supplement doesn't mean you can't have it on prescription. You can even have food on prescription, gluten-free bread for example is on prescription if you have certain conditions. There might be differences between counties on which particular food supplements that are available on prescription, that I can't comment on, you would need to check further. I would not trust that every consultant know all the prescription rules completely so some further investigation could possibly be wise. I still get 30 sachets on prescription every month, I live in London.

I also had severe UC and went through a year of hell on all the usual prescribed meds and nothing worked...I was pointed to Vsl 3 by a Professor at Dundee Uni and at this time it was only available from Holland and very expensive...However I was willing to give it a go... It totally gave me my life back and surprised my consultant that it worked to the point that he started suggesting it to others.
I don't take it all the time now, mostly a month before Holidays and a month or so after and this keeps me in good health...It has now been about 4 years since the consultant signed me off and I have never looked back...This is all down to VSL 3, of this I have no doubts...I have never tried the capsules, only the sachets.

You can get this on NHS prescription. It has helped me suffering from IBS. It is also a necessity to take after antibiotics.
If the hospitals used this product more on patients who's immune system was depleted after antibiotics there would be less terrible problems. Apparently the hospitals are stocking up on this product, and it is difficult to get prescription filled!
Powder sachets are the ones I use, and they must be stored in a fridge.

This has been very useful for me while on antibiotics. It guaranteed my guts stayed healthy. I'd highly recommend it.
