What wasn't I expecting ?
Well, to be honest I wasn't expecting this book to be as good a read as it turned out to be. I'd been avoiding Stephen Baxter as he has co-authored with Arthur C Clake - and quite frankly the latter bores the pants off me.
This, however, was a very interesting read. It seems like a fair old bit of historical research has gone into this, which I found all interlinked very well. I won't go on about what happens in the book (as you can find out about this anywhere really). But, I would recommend it. And the other three books in the series.
My only - relatively minor - gripe is that the 4th book ("Weaver") does a bit of an Eddings at the end. By that I mean the storyline builds up nicely over the first 300-odd pages of the book and then WHAM - it's over. Short sharp ending.
Read the series though. I liked it, and just ordered more of his stuff. :0)
