Customer Review

on February 23, 2006
This is a very silly film. It rapidly flits from CGI scene to CGI scene in an attempt to trash the viewer’s brain with special effects, which might have worked if they weren’t so uniformly bland. Unfortunately, the chromium 1930s feel of the movie works particularly badly with the cheap CGI lighting, shadowing effects and heavy anti-aliasing; so the overall impression is of a flat, grey nothingness, which pretty-but-bland Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow do nothing to alleviate. There is no plot or story worth discussing here, and although Jude Law’s Sky Captain has a hint of the Buzz Lightyear about him, there isn’t much in the character department either. I suppose some of the spaceships and stuff are pretty cool, but apart from Angelina Jolie’s face this film did absolutely nothing for me at all, and I’m struggling to remember it only a day after going to see it.
