1.0 out of 5 stars Incomprehensible b%£$%x, 14 Feb. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Empire (Paperback)
How ever much you dress it up, this is still a communist tract. Go to Gapminder and run the main animation that shows global development, ie Capitalism, since 1800 to see how humanity has progressed over the last 200 years. Communism has given the human race precisely nothing, apart from famine, economic chaos and conflict. Is the current "system" perfect? Of course not, but it is a hell of a lot better than the alternative. But strangely enough these neo communists just moan on about the current system but offer very little in the way of this alternative, because they know that most people will recoil at their suggestions.

Swift says:
Have not read the book in question. However, your generic rant makes it clear that either you havnet either despite your "verified" purchase or that you lack the depth to understand and comment intelligently on it.

James Hart says:
It is pretty much a weak attack on the book by someone who has labeled it incomprehensible anyway (translated as I don't understand it). I am not judging the commenter for not understanding it, it is a difficult book to get to grips with. However, it is naive to call it communist as if you had read it and understood it then you would see that it is far from communism. However, this is a standard, though weak, attack by those unable to take having their views challenged due to ideological dogma (left or right). Taint it by association to either communism or fascism and then they don't have to try and understand it. I personally think H&N's ideas are massively far-fetched and unworkable. But the books are worth a read. If you do then you see that those talking about Empire being a Communist idea are talking out of their a$*%. (In fact, the Communists hate it).

I'm not a Communist but to say it gave us nothing when the Soviets went from being a pretty primitive society in the 1910s to putting the first men and satellites in space is just picking a side and ignoring the facts
