This review is from: The Housewife's Handbook: How to Run the Modern Home (Hardcover)
After being the youngest child and working full time for over a decade, it came as a total shock to me that there wasn't a magic fairy who came and took away my dirty washing and magically cleaned the house when I finally moved out of my parents house.
From the opening pages this book challenges the way that we view housewives. Instead of feeling pointless and insignificant when I say "I'm a housewife" (for the moment), the author points outs all the difficulties of managing a house and why it is so much more difficult than what people imagine. She then goes on to explain what needs to be cleaned and managed in each room, to the last detail.
Even if you don't want t be taught how to clean (I did, and the book is fabulous for it) there are many little tips that many people simply won't know. Like not putting food in tins in the fridge, take the food out of the tin and put in tupperware because the tin makes the food go rotten quicker. Or not to put biscuits and cakes in the same time as the biscuits will go soggy and the cake dry.
I got this book as a guide of what exactly to clean and when, and it has taught me that and so much more. If you feel like you sometimes need a bit of hand with housework and knowing when and what to do, then this book is perfect. The author approaches the subject like a professional job, detailing what to do, when and why in a non-condescending manner. Each room has its own chapter, it's easy to read and understand. Love it!
Love this book, it will be my go-to book for any house related problems I come across!
