Fifties swing avoiding bop.,
This review is from: Linger Awhile (Audio CD)
This was my first step into "modern" jazz from being a die hard traditional jazz fan. This CD is made from exerpts of three original albums recorded mainly with well know big band swing musicians produced by John Hammond in an old Masonic hall with "live" accustics. An ideal situation to record this mainstream music. Braff is joined by such luminaries as Vic Dickenson, Edmund Hall, Buck Clayton, Sir Charles Thompson and more of similar standing. A great introduction to small group swing in the fifties avoiding any bop influence. Well worth a listen, well worth getting the CD yourself.
