Thoughtful and entertaining in equal measure,
This review is from: This Charming Man (Paperback)
First, a confession: I don't normally 'do' chicklit so I'm not coming at this from the same perspective as some of the reviewers. However, ever since Rachel's Holiday, I've really admired Marian for tackling tricky subjects in an entertaining way. While the multitude of voices and styles may be difficult for some to get their heads around, I felt it was important in the treatment of the subject, conveying that domestic abuse does not exclusively happen to a certain type of person. I actually enjoyed the spontaneity and headlong pace of Lola, her thoughts rushing out too fast to worrying about grammar. Overall, it's not great literature, but it's well-written, engrossing and thought-provoking.
