Doctor Who and the Time Capsule of Tat!!!,
This review is from: Doctor Who: The 4th Doctor Time Capsule [DVD] (DVD)
It really isn't worth the money and here's why...
The figure - This is simply a mash up of 2 previously released figures. They took the body from a 3rd Doctor figure and the head from a 4th Doctor figure.
Also, the figure is totally incongruous with the DVD. The figure is from the 3rd Doctor Story's 'Planet of the Spiders' and briefly 'Robot' - the 4th Doctor.
If they had re-tooled a totally unique figure for this set perhaps the Scottish beret outfit Tom baker wore in the included DVD 'Terror Of The Zygons', THEN it would have been good value.
The DVD - No special features, SF have become standard on most Doctor Who DVD releases now. This is just a clever ploy to not try and grab sales from the standard DVD which is being released in September.
The Sonic Screwdriver - While this may look the part it has one major flaw...the sound chip is completely wrong. They used the sound of the new series sonic screwdriver and not a sample of the classic 4th Doctor screwdriver. That's like having a talking Tom baker figure with a David Tennant voice. Very poor.
The rest of the contents - while it's nice to have them they are not really worth the current price tag.

Thanks for your forensic deconstruction of this insulting piece of crap. Hope you don't receive the personal abuse I got from some 'collectors' for my negative review last week.

Yeah I read some of it ;-(
Take no notice. If they want to waste their cash on crap that's their choice. Pity though as it means product creators won't push themselves to create better things for the fans.

I made that point about the figure in the forum.
If they are going to make limited edition items, they need to take the time to put something really special into them.
Therefore they should have made a new sculpt of the fourth Doctor - as he appeared at the start of Terror of the Zygons. I would have been happy with just a new head sculpt.
I read somewhere that they won't be releasing this figure on it's own - this is a real insult to our intelligence. As has been mentioned, all you need is the third and fourth Doctor figures and at this time, the fourth can still be purchased quite cheap and he comes with a spare head.

The sound effect the "new series" Sonic Screwdriver uses (and consequently the toy that comes with this Time Capsule) is actually the sound effect that was used in 'The Sontaran Experiment' when the Fourth Doctor was using his Sonic Screwdriver to fix a faulty transmat unit. Therefore it is completely accurate.

The 4th Doctor Sonic sound effect is a lower tone.
Listen to this sample of the 4th Doctors screwdriver from the Doctor Who sound effects album.
The new series sound effect is higher pitched and has a faster 'warble' effect as shown here...
