This review is from: Doctor Who: The Mark Of The Rani [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This story rates as one of the best of the Colin Baker stories. A pseudo historical - get at the time of inductrial change - its background scenery adds much to the feel of the story.
The Doctor's interaction between both the Master and Rani is good - and it begins to develop the character of the Doctor as something standing very oppossed to his two contemporaries.
The masterpiece of the story is the Rani - as brilliantly played by Kate O'Mara - a character that is very ruthless yet totally indifferent to the halm she causes - cold indifferance is very hard to achieve, though she pulls it off in this story brilliantly.
The story has other find points also - the meeting with R. Stevenson and peeking at history in the making with his 'Rocket' engine is one, and the scenes with the Tyrannosaurus Rex embryos in the Rani's TARDIS are high special effects moments for the series !
A Fine story, with a good background setting, place this story as a highpoint for its season - well worth getting
