This review is from: Peter Brook: Sur un Fil, The Tightrope (DVD)
Just a few brief notes, partly because the info on this website is currently very limited. Many more details of this same DVD on the French Amazon website: http://www.amazon.fr/Sur-Un-Fil-The-Tightrope/dp/B00E8WL4E2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390241007&sr=8-1&keywords=sur+un+fil
Despite the language used being English for the vast majority of the time, the DVD's cover is wholly in French. Also this is a `region free' (0) DVD so obviously intended for an international market.
The main feature of the DVD is sort of a fly-on-the-wall documentary features a sort of improvisation workshop led by Mr Brook, rather than rehearsals for any particular show. All takes place on the huge carpets laid on the floor in the centre of the Bouffes du Nord. A group of 8 or so actors, various ages and cultural backgrounds. Mostly centres on the exercise of walking on an imaginary tightrope, which is also used as a symbol...
All exercises are to the (usually improvised) accompaniment of resident musicians.
No commentary by the director, only sometime talks aside from the actors by Brook himself.
The special features include an interview with Simon Brook and a separate 30 min documentary of interviews with several of the actors and musicians, which is itself fascinating. Also includes several pieces of music along with still photos.
However, if you can't watch this with attention, it will be very dull, perhaps seeming impenetrable. This is not really for a general audience, but maybe more for those with an interest in the theatre.
