A Book ABout Drugs for Those People Who Hate Drugs!,
This review is from: Manifesting Minds: A Review of Psychedelics in Science, Medicine, Sex, and Spirituality (Paperback)
No one is suggesting that the regular infusion of ay sort of consciousness-changing substance is a good habit to get into but as in all other aspects of life there are people who like to challenge and experiment with socially frowned upon activities.
Manifesting Minds is a compilation of essays that look at the use of psychoactive hallucinogens as well as natural and formulated psychedelics by a wide range of people from within a diverse range of social backgrounds.
The book is sectioned off into various categories. These include examinations of drugs in the arts, their impact upon creativity, their use in healing and therapy as well as including insights into the world of drugs and sexuality, spirituality and ecology.
Each essay contained in 'Manifesting Minds' is very readable and thoroughly engaging. On occasions the stories are very moving and reveal how when the boundaries of the human ego are dissolved many miraculous effects can take place.
All of the articles openly challenged my own preconceptions of how drugs, when applied in a carefully controlled environment can enhance human life experience. (and yes, this can include self-administered substance use), I am by no means an advocate of drug use and have never been a supporter of the campaign for drug legalisation but this book certainly made me think past the narrow, artificially imposed limits set by the establishment over their use.
I found the book to be a thoroughly enjoyable read and one that I would recommend to anyone with an open mind or who are seeking a broader base from which to judge drug use today.
