Not exactly what I was expecting but quite entertaining,
This review is from: The 5th Wave (Book 1) (Paperback)
I was kind of scared of finding another YA novel where the plot starts great but the "love story" kills it dead before the end of the first book.
The alien invasion here is scarey and hard, thinking of billions of people dead is not nice or easy but it is well done. The main characters are survivors and that makes them complicated people. Cassie is one of the most interesting female characters I have read in this kind of novels. She is hard, strong but quite realistic. She gets hurt, sick and struggles with fear and doubts along the way. She is not a superheroine or a lovesick puppy, she just wants to live and to keep her promise.
Zombie is also a really good character. Evan might be the most complicated one for me. Mainly as I don't see him as clearly or as believable as the others.
All in all, an interesting first book, I am already wanting to read the next one to see what happens
