wu jing earlier effort fatal contact was a stellar outing, his next film fatal move fails to deliver. now regulate to a side role wu jing returns as similar role to Killzone; a cold hearted killer but in a less compotent picture.
this actually sammo hungs film but he too kind of reprises his role in killzone; as a crime kingpin. there story focuses on the exploits of the inner workings and betrayals with the triad society but fails to captivate the audience for the filming is handled in such a pedestrian manner; lengthy and boring dialogue scenes, static camera and uninspired gore. the film earns its 18 rating rightfully because there are some dark gorey scenes but one cannot help thinking that there inclusion feels forced.
all this would have been well and good if it had some well staged fight scenes to break up the monotonous proceedings but the only real major fight appears at the end and even that seems forced, but there is no denying that it is well choreographed. the showdown between sammo and wu has no place in the film and appears out of the blue which is kind of insulting (the audience wants a fight between Sammo and wu but not shoehorened in). the other notable fight is when wu jing takes on a group of triads with a sword(???) and this is heavily marred by over abundance of fake CGI blood and limbs.
at times it feels like the filmmaker was trying to capture on the success of killzone(a.k.a SPL) but it failed in that respected and even as an entertaining piece of film making it fails.
two stars for the throwdown between sammo hung and wu jing.
