I must admit this was not quite the album I was hoping for but its a good one nevertheless. Why only three stars you may ask ? Basically ,this is quite a sombre downbeat kind of album with mostly slow tempos.Things liven a considerably with "Sister Sadie" and Ornette Coleman's "Ramblin" and the traditional "St Louis Blues" but otherwise its relaxed tempo's all the way. There are some fine solos from Finn Peters on St Louis and Ramblin and they are probably the pick of the album. There is also a fine contribution from Julian Siegel on Tenor Saxophone. If you like your Big Band albums colourful and swingin then this is probably a little too quiet for you but to those that value colour and texture then you will enjoy with out a doubt.
