I bought this book out of interest as this was the era I began to follow football. I did not anticipate much - you know, usual sort of football stuff. But what did I get? A cleverly crafted cocktail of sublime recollections. It began slowly describing life after the second world war but this added to the drama of a small town club winning the big one. What a shame it could not happen again but it reveals just how much the game has changed. Or has it? Tim comprehensively credits the ball playing teams of that era and surely this was a similar style to that employed by the great Barcelona team of 2008-09 and currently favoured by Arsenal. It really should be a simple game. I thoroughly enjoyed reading quotes from the players of that great Burnley team as it endorses the shallowness and greed of the modern player, in comparison. It was a clever idea to record the weekly results and regular league table so that supporters of other teams can monitor the progress of their team. Tim, thanks for the passion and your enthusiastic narrative making this a MUST READ for Burnley supporters and those with long memories. So much research, so many unusual facts and so different from other sports books. Well done.
