5.0 out of 5 stars Short episodes, easy to watch, 3 Nov. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Behind the Mafia (6-Disc Gift Pack) [DVD] (DVD)
I watched all 6 of them at the same day. They didn't tire me at all. My only complaint has to do with the packaging of the set. The dvd boxes were broken (almost all of them). Fortunately, the discs were not.
Very interesting presentation of 6 of the most famous (or notorious - call them any way you want) criminals of all times.
Unfortunately, the one that was missing, and in my opinion, should exist instead of Goodfella, is Lucky Luciano.
I believe the set would be more complete, due to his involvement in the high levels of the crime syndicate and also because of the innovations he presented to the Mafia organization, regardming its transformation from locally organized groups to panamerican institution.

I haven't watched this collection, but Lucky Luciano is one person and the series is about an organization. Goodfellas is about cameraderie in one of the families, so I don't think it's unfair that they chose to depict this instead of Luciano since apparently they had to choose. The reason why they would have to do that, especially when it comes to a prolific figure like Lucky Luciano, is another question. He ought to have been in the series.

Now that I'm talking to you - maybe you'll read this comment - I would like to ask you, if the investigation and presentation is about the organizational structure and maybe the mindset behind it couple with the times in which these things happened(*), or do we get some thoughts about the individual mob moss's psychological makeup as well?

Thank for an informative review.

(*) - "these things" still happen, but obviously the goings on are carried out differently and are much less public now a' days, For good reasons, one might add.
