This review is from: Body by Science: A Research Based Program to Get the Results You Want in 12 Minutes a Week (NTC Sports/Fitness) (Kindle Edition)
The heart of this book is a clearly explained protocol for following an exercise regime that takes about 40 minutes once a week (the book says 12 mins but then you have to get changed and may want to warm up before and stretch a bit after). What is most distinctive about this book is the clarity with which it makes the case (and the evidence it uses to support the case) that resting for long enough, a week or more, between very short but intensive exercise sessions is essential. The book also clearly spells out the corollary to its central message, that overtraining is counterproductive and can result in diminished performance and, more importantly, negative health consequences. A possible downside of the book is that for lay readers the science may in places be a bit difficult, but there is no problem skimming over these because all the important messages are clearly spelled out. And there is reassurance as to the accuracy of the claims made in that extensive references allow a reader to follow up every important point.
