Customer Review

For years the Scottish Scourge has targeted the friends and employees of the Earl of Duncannon, preventing his daughter, Lady Venetia Campbell, from returning to the country she loves. Now rumours claim that the Scourge is dead, and Venetia seizes the chance to return home to Scotland. Only to be seized herself.

Sir Lachlan Ross returned from war to find his inherited estate in turmoil. With money woes and a struggling clan to support, it seemed only natural to call in the loan Duncannon owes him. But the earl refuses to pay - even after he created the Scourge to force him.

After thugs hired by the earl come close to killing Lachlan, it's clear he must do something drastic to receive his money - and when Venetia visits Edinburgh it's too good an opportunity to miss.

Until several days of close confinement teach Lachlan that she's no brainless society miss, but an intelligent Scottish Lass with a wicked bent. As he struggles to keep his hands to himself - especially when Venetia fails to protest - and the pair of them fall in love, can he ever forget what brought them together in the first place? Or might he be forced to give her up in his quest for revenge?

Jeffries continues the `School for Heiresses' series (Never Seduce A Scoundrel (School for Heiresses),Only a Duke Will Do (School for Heiresses),The School for Heiresses) with a tale full of Highland passion, sultry Gaelic nights and plenty of whiskey. Venetia is a strong heroine, who despite difficult circumstances, refuses to take anything meekly. Yet instead of making Lachlan rue the day he set eyes on her, she tangles him in sensual webs of her own. Where as Lachlan is a fierce laird with more passion than sense - whether he is fighting for his clan, justice or love. How can he possibly resist?

Another fabulous Heiress tale of family, responsibilities, secrets and love, filled with Jeffries usual blend of research, sensuality and excellent characters. A thoroughly enjoyable addition to a brilliant series.
