This 2CD Set collects the 'Peter Bellamy Sings the Barrack Room Ballads of Rudyard Kipling' on the first disc, and a large portion of the the privately issued tape 'Soldiers Three' on Disc 2. Soldiers Three had many re-recordings of the Barrack Room Ballads album, so Fellside have removed most of the duplicates except for a version of Bill 'Awkins which featured both Peter and Keith Marsden singing together. There are also a small number of tracks culled from other sources that fit the pattern.
If you're looking at this review you likely don't need an explanation of Peters vocal style. You either like it or you don't. Quality is universally high. On the whole I actually enjoyed the Soldiers Three recordings better than the original set. Peter's voice is slightly more approachable here. Makes me wish there was a third disc with the remaining missing tracks.
If you are fan of Peter, or of Rudyard Kipling, don't hesitate, you won't be unhappy :-) Thank you Fellside Recordings.
