Very good starting point.,
This review is from: The Great War: 1914-1918 (Paperback)
I found this book very readable and easily absorbed. My main feeling was, however, that it was more a starting point for leading into reading books more focused on specific aspects and campaigns of the Great War.
I understood why he wished to try to 'rehabilitate' certain generals, but I feel that in so doing he glosses over many of the unforgivable and, quite frankly, ridiculous decisions that were taken. This, in my view, weakens some of the book.
All in all though, I found it a worthwhile read and would recommend it - with the above caveats.
