Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
There are posters in my local chemist advertising this MegaRed krill oil, so there's clearly a large company behind this product. Krill oil is much more expensive than normal fish oil and this product isn't particularly high in the amount of krill oil in the capsule. The advertising talks about the medical studies saying 250mg a day is the ultimate amount to take, but the capsule doesn't provide that amount. The capsules are about 1/4 the size of normal capsules and promise 'no fish odour' which was a bonus for my son who hates taking fish oil. The small size of the capsule is also a plus as normal fish oil capsules are a lot to swallow. The high price for the product was a lot to swallow too. After many years promoting fish oil as a great supplement to take, the health gurus are now suggesting too much fish oil isn't great and it's the use of good quality oils in the diet that is most important. Before looking at expensive krill oil as a supplement you may be better looking at replacing your cheap vegetable oil with good quality organic cold pressed coconut oil; and your vegetable oil spread with organic pasture fed butter. After 50 years of being told that fat is bad for us, the results are in - highly purified and processed vegetable oil and transfats and hydrogenated fats are all bad for your health, but the traditional fats that our grandparents used and the generations before them, are an essential part of a healthy diet. The Indian Medical Association were well ahead of us in this regard, publishing a report in 1998 advising the population to return to their traditional cooking oils of ghee (clarified butter), coconut oil and mustard seed oil, to reduce the incidence of diabetes. If your diet is lacking fish (less than the recommended 2 portions per day) then after ensuring you have good quality fats in your diet, adding Krill oil may be a useful recommendation, particularly if you have stiff joints.
