Customer Review

on 4 October 2012
Popular was one of the most ridiculous teen shows ever made! The likes of Mary Cherry, Nicole Julian, April Tuna and Emory Dick showed that both cliques searching for the Holy Grail of popularity had one thing in common, completely neurotic members! Despite the shows unrealistic characters and some unrealistic story lines, the beauty of the show was it's wit and intelligence. There are so many cultural and literary references, some I still can't even pick up on! From the parody of the "Scream" films! To the heartwarming moments whilst Harrison is battling leukemia, their own version of "It's a Wonderful Life". And of course, who could forget Nicole's "A Christmas Carol" style episode?

You may watch the show trying to name the references, or mock the crazy characters and over the top sentimentality; but one thing the show does do so well is allow you to relate to the characters despite everything, from Sam's dead dad, to Brooke and Sam's parents becoming involved, to Brooke's eating disorder, Carmen's body image problems, Nicole's cold step mother and Bobbi Glass's loneliness. Everybody has their own story! It's such a shame the show ended!
