Enjoyable, but Not What It Could Have Been,
This review is from: Legacy: Hymns and Faith (Audio CD)
After several years without a project, Amy returns with this CD, all new recordings of favorite hymns with a few new songs thrown in as well. Included are new arrangements of some of my favorites like "This is My Father's World" and the medley of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus/Old Rugged Cross/How Great Thou Art." Of the original songs, I really like "What You Already Own" and "Imagine" (my first recording of this song). Amy's vocals are sharp and most of the arrangements are fun.
There are a couple flaws with the album, however. It has a definite country feel to it. While this works for some of the songs, it gets monotonous toward the end. Some variety would have really helped. Also, as I noted with her last Christmas album, she seems to be missing the spark she once had. It almost feels like she's just going through the motions at times. Finally, just a minor pet peeve. Some of these arrangements only feature the chorus of a great hymn. It would have been nice to have at least one verse included.
Overall, this is worth adding to any Amy Grant collection. It may not reach the heights of some of her best, but it will provide hours of enjoyment.
