Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Schwere Panzer in Detail (Hardcover)
I bought book after having bought the same publishers book on the "Panther" which I really liked.
the format of the book works very well ,excellent selection of photographs , line diagrams and an informative text used to illustrate the design ,construction and features of the King Tiger, Jagdtiger and Elefant.
The book itself is well presented, the photographs are well sized clear , informative and the detail of construction and usage are well explained and the authors bring out the finer detail of each tank in turn. The text is clear , reads well and surrenders quite a bit of information and to be honest you will be quite surprised at the quality of what you get all given in nice bite size chunks which on an individual basis seem familiar but this is really not the case , this book is well worth its cover price , in fact it is something of a bargain given the Amazon price.
Does this book "tell all" , probably not all but in one siting you get a better than average illustrated history of these three "related" tanks, each very different but all share a common genesis.
A quick note on the photos- some are well known but most are not ( to me at any rate) and whilst they do form the core of the book it is much more than a "photographic history" , along with very good line drawings the text does explain the design , construction and combat experience of each tank.
Whilst there are some snippets of unit history given this is not what this book and those in this series intend to do.
I find the book hard to fault to be honest given the intended scope and remit adopted by the authors you get good value for money, thinking of which I have just placed an order for the publishers book on the "Tiger 1 and Sturmtiger", for £19.00 odd I think it too will be excellent VFM.
