Great Full HD camcorder for the price.,
This review is from: Toshiba Camileo S10 1080p High Definition Camcorder (Camera)
Purchased this Camcorder a few weeks ago and it is an excellent piece of hardware for the money.
It records at Full 1080p resolution, 30 frames per second, and the end video is impressive for a camcorder of this size, the size of this is almost identical to an Ipod Video 60GB.
I'll cover what you'll want to know.
Recording formats are the following :-
1920 by 1080 @ 30fps (1080p)
1280 by 720 @ 30fps (720p)
848 by 480 @ 60fps (WVGA 60)
640 by 480 (VGA)
320 by 240 (QVGA)
Other camcorders in this price bracket do record the 720p format at 60fps, but this is only a minor complaint.
Still's camera is 8 mega pixel, which is good clear quality, but it is not the easiest to use properly.
The camera button is directly below the video record / stop button, which is handy, but when you are lining up to take your shot, and you are still in widescreen recording mode, when you take a shot, it zooms out for some reason then takes the shot, my guess is that when you are in widescreen mode, it narrows the capture view, but when you take a picture, it expand the capture view to maximum.
Power : The battery in mine which the camcorder came with lasted round 50 minutes in 1080p record mode, so if you are recording away from home, it is advisable that you carry a spare battery.
Memory : Internal memory is woeful, A SDHC 8GB Class 10 memory card will give you around 2 hours and 13 minutes of recording time in Full HD 1080p mode, another thing that is annoying is that you cannot select where you files will go, it would be nice if you could select still shots to go to internal memory and video to go the the SDHC card, but you can't, not a major issue, but it could prove annoying to some people.
Note : This camcorder needs a minimum of a Class 6 SDHC memory card to run properly, but as 8GB Class 10's are less than £10 on ebay these days, it really is not an issue.
The recording focal angle does feel narrow sometimes, you may find that you need to be be a good distance away from your subject to get the shots you desire, but it is only in crowded indoor situations.
Camcorder does come with a tripod screw hole, which is excellent for recording in full HD mode as there is no image stability software in the camcorder.
Overall, if you want a good quality Full Hd camcorder that is simple to use, this is it, but some people may find the lack of features annoying.
