OK, so perhaps this isn't an absolute stunner. And some of the earlier Renko books were. But I don't think it's quite as disappointing as some of the other reviewers say. It's a classy thriller, which a lot of writers would have been delighted to get under their belt.
Mr Smith has written a great many novels, and I think that in his relatively old age he can be allowed to become a trifle mannered. It's part of the charm.
As usual, the publisher overpriced the Kindle edition. So I read a library copy. Another sale lost to publisher and author. When are publishers going to learn that overcharging is not the way to maximise income? At present they're just making life difficult for themselves.
