if you`ve read any other books on travel by colin thubron and have not read IN SIBERIA, then this is a must, by far his most interesting book to date .IN SIBERIA is a fascinating journey from one end of siberia to the other, a trek of 15000 miles travelling independant by train, car and even boat with the local populations, meeting and mixing with people from all different backgrounds, ways of life and religion with sad and happy stories to tell. mr thubron gives an excellent account of each place he travels to,giving you a very interesting insight into the beauty and immense size of the country and its hardships after communism ,and the historical value of each place he visits. one i found particulary interesting was his visits to kolyma the now deserted gulag camps, the way mr thubron describes this barron inhospitable place makes you realise how cruel and horrific it must have been to millions of people persecuted by stalin.
a great written book a must for anyone, you wont put it down.
