3.0 out of 5 stars Harmful plastic?, 15 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I would give this offer 5 stars, if it were not for the fact that the plastic used for these jars is a category #3 (as stamped on the base of the jar to state the type of plastic used) which is a type of plastic that could potentially cause health problems. There are some safer plastics and it's a shame HTC doesn't use these as their coconut oil is great value for money. I shall stick to buying it in glass containers from now on.

Mr. I. Young says:
It's really hard finding all the info on things. I found out that RTC oil is unhydrogenated and doesn't use hexane in the refinement process which is great. But it is really disappointing to hear about the plastic they're in. I'm guessing that all RTC stuff is in plastic then, any ideas for other cheaper refined coconut oils which use both good manufacturing and packaging methods?

Carl says:
They also do it in a glass bottle, which I buy preferentially due to the plastic packed coconut oil always being contaminated with the smell and taste of those lovely xenoestrogens.
Find it here:
KTC Pure Coconut Oil 250 ml (Pack of 6)

Also it's KTC, not HTC or RTC lol, jeeze!

sandielane says:
it's KTC not RTC, the oil I normally buy is £5.99 in glass jars, Lucy Bee or similar, a friend got me the KTC from Tesco which is of course much cheaper, lovely I thought until I read your review about the plastic jar, so thankyou for that, Sandielane

Most people look at the price first then buy - they then complain about the plastic container and the lack of coconut smell, oh and it's not organic virgin etc (I've seen virgin coconut in plastic containers). If you want any of those then there are other products at varying price points. There is no ideal situation, also you might want to consider how much the people who are manufacturing this are actually paid to produce the product in order to give you the opportunity to buy this at such a low price.
