5.0 out of 5 stars All 9 Seasons, 15 Aug. 2012
This review is from: Dynasty - Complete Season 1-9 [DVD] [1980] (DVD)
Its great (but shameless) that Dynasty is now being released as a one-stop-shop boxset, featuring the whole nine seasons.

The show has already been fully reviewed in per-season releases previously, by many fans, general reviewers and moi truly, but to nutshell this boxset and the nine individual seasons...

Season 1 - poor Dallas knock-off, boring, Blake's a baddy, no Nolan Miller
Season 2 - Enter Alexis, lots of trouble, crazy doctor Toscanni
Season 3 - More Alexis, more of everything - Kirby, Cecil, Mark...
Season 4 - Enter Dominique, someone's out to get Alexis, bye-bye Fallon
Season 5 - Rock Hudson, Ali MacGraw, Moldavia, height of success
Season 6 - The Colbys, Moldavia drags on, two Krystle's, George Hamilton
Season 7 - La Mirage burns, Alexis wins /Blake wins, an oil rig explosion
Season 8 - Jeff, Fallon, Matthew are back, race for Govenor, getting boring...
Season 9 - where's Alexis, Nazi treasure, welcome Sable, the end.

Seasons 3 to 5 are outstanding, classic & compulsive TV viewing. The cracks appear in Season 6, and its downhill through seasons 7 - 9. However, this show is a capsule of the 1980's and identifies that era as much as Dallas, and more so than shows like The Golden Girls and Magnum, simply because it dictated fashion and made Joan Collins a star!

As this is basically a box-up of the individual seasons (already available) there are no special features or bonus material, which is disappointing.

Season 1 is slow, yes, but very good. Season 2 gets the balance right between glamour and quality plot and character development. Season 9 is a terrific, last chapter revival for the show, even though the lead stars are wandering off.

But the show starts to get dumbish around Season 3 and keeps getting dumber until Season 8.

It hurts. But it just does.
