1.0 out of 5 stars Leftist 'intellectual' in not tolerating dissent shocker!, 21 July 2014
This review is from: Unspeakable Things: Sex, Lies and Revolution (Paperback)
As is typical of the Progressive apparatchick of the modern age, Laurie Penny cannot abide criticism. That is why she has put out a twitter appeal asking her followers to come and 'downvote' one-star reviews of her book as 'not helpful'. That is why you will see measured reviews by people who have obviously read the work rated as 'helpful' by only 20% of the people rating the review.

Can you trust the intellectual integrity of an 'author' who is so patently unable or unwilling to accept the slightest negative feedback from the 'marketplace of ideas' that she has to call on her minions to manipulate ratings? I certainly couldn't.

Down rated your 'review' because it isn't one. Just a criticism of all you dislike about the author. Pointless!

So a response about the the author's distaste of critical reviews and asking for shills is to respond by proving their point precisely

If it suits your obvious agenda I suppose it does. However if you bothered to read what I said you would note that my criticism of the tirade above is that it has nothing at all to do with the the contents of the book. This section is an opportunity for people who have read the book to say what they think of it not to bang on about the author and their like/ dislike of them. Play the man, not the ball for once eh?

It's a shame because the other reviews this guy has written seem pretty on the ball on diverse subjects. Maybe a better way to comment would be to reply to other posts agreeing/disagreeing, (like I am doing here, because I have not read it, so I Will Not Review to spite or praise like others appear to have done, just venture my {hopefully unbiased} opinion on the content of others' reviews)

I think maybe the author could have been more tactful in asking fellow reviewers to take each review with a pinch of salt and come to their own conclusions by Reading the review and making up their own minds as to whether to "Helpful" it or not. But it appears (after a relentless attack on the spirit and values of the author {complete with threats involving children}), that they have proved themselves Human by getting Angry about it; of course, the one percent of the time that you can't take this "on the chin" any more, show any weakness in public (no matter whether you are male, female, or sky-blue-green-with-yellow-spots), you get pounced on like a pack of wolves. Or trolls.
All I ask is that, whoever we are, we can treat each other with dignity and respect, by critiquing _content_ rather than resort to playground tactics like "You smell" or "your mother" insults...
