The best bit is the beginning, where we see Russell Crowe as Superman's father. He makes a great superhero. Superman himself is - well - not very super by comparison. He is too serious, too pretty-boy, too wooden. A cardboard cut-out. In fact, the whole film takes itself too seriously. Where is the tongue-in-cheek humour, the moments of levity that lighten a good film before it plunges back into the dark? Without any light, the dark becomes meaningless, and very rapidly boring. The end of the film in particular goes on, and on... and on. Explosions! More explosions! Yet more! Endless fight scenes! A large portion of this should have been pruned. Even my teenage son agreed with my criticisms. Dire nonsense.
