This review is from: Frank Sinatra's Greatest Hits [Australian Import] (Audio CD)
I remember this album in its original vinyl form when my uncle a big Frank Sinatra fan bought it.That was back in the late 60s .As a child I used to hear it being played and remember finding the tunes melodic.Since that time I myself have purchased Frank Sinatra records many times ,including his greatest hits but never this album. For me this represents Frank Sinatra at his best. Its strange isn't it when you think that these songs now, from 40 years ago ( and a bit more) represent the modern Frank Sinatra rather than the 1940s songs which seemed (to me anyway) dated then when this album first came out.His voice at this time had achieved a maturity while still having lost none of its quality and power.
Something Stupid and Strangers In the Night are my favourite tracks on the album ( they are my favourite frank Sinatra songs anyway)but the other songs on the album are good too.Frank Sinatra gives a great performance of The World we Knew demonstrating the power of his voice complemented by Softly As I leave You.Some of the later Greatest Hits albums didn't include these songs, which is a pity.
A great album from the 1960s ! worth a listen to again.
