Amazing, iconic and beautiful product with a deserved reputation as the device that transformed the world of books.
Except, the screen on ours froze just 3 months after the warranty ended. Tried all the resets, no joy. It was kept in pristine condition in an official Amazon leather case for its whole lifetime. OK, so not expecting a brand new replacement for a device out of warranty, but at least a reasonbly priced repair or a fairly discounted refurbished model would have been an appropriate gesture.
But... nada. Amazon don't want to know. Their usually brilliant customer service quickly went from friendly, to insulting, to a wall of silence. They think a lifetime of 15 months is acceptable for a £150 e-reader. The UK sale-of-goods act thinks otherwise. So do I.
Shame. The saving grace is that our library of Kindle books can be read on other devices, thanks to the various Kindle apps for other platforms. Good... because that was our first and last Kindle e-reader.
