zero to hero,
This review is from: Tri Repetae (Audio CD)
The first album I bought by Autechre was Amber. It was by default really, as I was keen on buying their music and it was the only one in the rack at my record shop. So that was it. Like a soundtrack being beamed in from another planet, I was instantly hooked. It was so other-worldly I was unsure if it was made by the hand of man, at least from this age any way. I was aware that most people seemed to think Amber as their pinnacle.
When I got my paws on Tri-Repetae, I too thought that Amber was perhaps their peak. The first listen was definately not as instant as Amber, and I thought this record was a dud in comparison. A few more spins and I still thought it was just a bunch of noise going nowhere. But with persistence I began to realize that this record was indeed a classic. It has just began to sink in and sense is beginning to be made of what seemed like a jumble of clicks, noises and whooshes. With further plays I am sure this record will be just as immense in my mind and imagination than Amber, and that's what makes this record very exciting.
