Good selection, lots of tracks, but some very short versions,

The main thing to note here is that in order to cram in 44 tracks on 2 CD's, most of the tracks are shorter than the original 7" singles. They have either been edited or faded out early (up to 30 seconds shorter), which is quite noticeable in some cases and some sound too short to be satisfying (although it is quite interesting if you know the tracks well). So, if you're looking to replace your old singles you could be disappointed. However, if you're not so familiar with these tracks or you're happy with more tracks and compromising on the track length then this would be fine. It would be particularly good for a party where the shorter versions mean you get through the tracks quicker and therefore nobody suffers too long on a track they don't like. But having said that, you can't beat the track selection on offer here, although personally I would have preferred a few less tracks and to have the full single versions. Over all, for the type of compilation it is and the fact that it was a TV advertised album rather than one for the connoisseur, it offers a good variety of classic music at an affordable price. One major irritation though is that Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" has been missed off of the track list on the cover, so the track numbers are all wrong from track 15 onwards on Disc 2. So if you put the CD on to listen to one track, you may be surprised when another song plays instead.
Before buying this, it may be worth considering the "100 Hits" series, which has good compilations such as 100 Hits: Disco & 100 Hits: 80s Dance which I would recommend and to me offer better value for money.
