This statement can not currently be verified by looking or google searching on www.hawking.org.uk for expressions related to this statement "a complaint was made to the Federal Trade Commission in the US in the hope that they would prevent the publication" - it may well be true, I have no idea as I can not verify it (from his site) - the claim is however, repeated at many other sites, which may mean nothing.

If you look on Stephen Hawkings website and go to books, you will see that this book is not listed. This would confirm that he hasn't in endorsed it and is reason enough not to buy it.

There is a publication by Stephen Hawking with a similar title, however, this book was not written by him, it clearly states a different author, therefore, I am not keen to buy it. I will stick with his official books.
