Great scifi thriller,
This review is from: Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow [DVD] (DVD)
I am going to start by saying i am not a fan of Tom cruise, not at all, i think he is an ego maniac, its certainly how he comes across anyway, he seems to be in every shot of all his movies, and to be frank, a tad weird with his religious beliefs, but i thought id give this a go as i love sci fi.
Surprisingly i loved it.
The sign of a good movie for me is whether or not i pick up my phone or get my laptop out during it, but i did neither so for me that says a lot.
Tom plays Major Cage, an American Army media specialist who encourages people to sign up to fight a war against an Alien invasion. He is flown to London to meet the colonel of the battlefront and is promptly dumped on the front lines. Despite protesting he has never served a day in his life as he is an Officer, the Colonel wont have any of it and orders him to the battle. It was quite funny watching him try and squirm out of going to be honest. What a wimp :@)
Anyway ceremoniously forced, by handcuffs, and dumped on the front lines in a robotic weaponised suit of sorts, he kills one of the aliens and promptly dies. Then wakes up. Turns out this Alien he killed has the capacity to set the day, and so Cage is forced to live the day over and over and over, until he can figure out a way of killing the main Alien threat.
Emily Blunt was good in this too, and id like to say supporting cast but there weren't many to be honest.
You could actually see the frustration in Tom's face as he is forced to play out the same conversations and situations.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
