Customer Review

on 23 August 2010
Anyone interested in London cannot fail to be fascinated by the enthusiasm of Andrew Emmerson for the London Underground. The 64 pages are packed with facts and lavishly illustrated. It starts at the beginning in 1860 with the construction of the Metropolitan Railway and ends with refurbishmment of the Waterloo and City line in 2006 and there's everything in between - the Blitz, the carriage designs, the calligraphy - and the maps. I was sorry that 'Map' was not in the index and I had to read the (very tiny) print on my current tube map to discover Harry Beck the designer of our much loved map - introduced in 1933.

This is a book for any age of reader.
