2.0 out of 5 stars "As Though I Had Wings" - Yet this bird doesn't fly, 22 Jan. 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: As Though I Had Wings: The Lost Memoir (Hardcover)
In the Introduction, Chet Baker's widow, Carol Baker, says "only Chet can tell you .... exactly what I was wearing the night he met my parents". Yeah, well, so what? This book is not that trivial all the way through. There are some autobiographical anecdotes from Baker's early years and the antecedents to Cool Jazz in Los Angeles that are worth noting. However, these "Lost Memoirs" are hardly complete and, well, lost on their own. This book may be of value to the serious Chet Baker fan or biographer who is looking for some first hand reflections on the events in his career through the early 60's. In fact, these stories could be brought to life, and would add life, to a more comprehensive biography. However, unless you are an avid fan or a biographer, it's best to leave this one grounded.
