I bought this album the day it came out, I had seen them at Reading and got one of their tracks on a free single give away. If you're a fan of the Stuffies then this probably isn't for you. No scrap that, I love The Wonderstuff and the track 'Fixer' hints at it being the same song writer but on the whole this album is a completely different beast. This album is loud, in your face and just rockin'. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the production its pretty low-fi, I know thats intentional, but when you compare 'fixer' to the other tracks on the album its obvious they spent a little more time mixing and doing over dubs for the song that was definately going to be a single, I think if as much care had gone into the other tracks it would be 5 star for sure. Stand out tracks are 'At The Base Of The Fire', 'Easy To Talk', 'Fixer','Kissing The Mirror' and 'Night Out With A Foreign Fella' oh they are all pretty cool. It has a unique sound thats a slow grower. Its a shame they didn't last another couple of albums (blame Morgan Nichols) cos the potential is awesome, Miles must have some cool demos and live bits in his vaults that i would love to get my mits on. Well in concellation at least The Wonderstuff are back and their new album Suspended by Stars' kicks butt. Oh just for the trainspotters Vent 414, the 414 represents the over all weight of the band or something.
